John White Alexander was an artist born on October 7, 1856 in Allegheny, PA.  in 1874, Alexaner moved to New York City where he worked as an illustrator.  He studied at the Royal Academy in Munich, Germany where he associated with Joseph Frank Currier and Frank Duveneck.  Alexander also studied in Florence, Antwerp and in Paris.  He moved to New York City and became a member of the National Academy of Design, where from 1909-1915 he was president.  John White Alexander was a co-founder of the Nataional Society of Mural Painters.  Alexander died on May 31, 1915.

Laura Adams Armer (1874–1963) was an American artist, photographer, and author, known for portrayals of Native American cultures, particularly the Navajo and Hopi peoples.Laura May Adams was born on January 12, 1874, in Sacramento, CaliforniaShe studied art at the California School of Design in San Francisco from 1893 to 1899.  She opened a photography studio in San Francisco in 1899.  She married the American artist Sidney Armer.  In 1923, Laura Armer went to Arizona for the first time.  Until 1939 Armer continued to document native Navajo culture in paintings and illustrations. Laura Adams Armer died in March 1963.

Umetaro Azechi (1902–1999) was a Japanese printmaker and avid mountain climber He is best known for his distinctive woodblock prints depicting mountains and mountaineers. Born family in Ehime Prefecture, Japan, Azechi's began his artistic career engraving at a government printing office in Tokyo. Azechi met Hiratsuka Un'ichi, who encouraged him to pursue woodblock printing. Azechi developed a unique primitive style, characterized by bold forms and rich colors. Utemaro Azechi gained international recognition, with his prints.  His prints held in major museums worldwide, including the British Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Berger returned United States, and became a well known teacher at schools like Wellesley College and the Art Institute of Boston.  Berger and his first wife, painter Marilyn Powers, co-founded the "Direct Vision" group. His art is held in numerous private and public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum.
